About the Fire District
The East Fishkill Fire District was formed in October of 1935. Back then there was one fire company, Hopewell Hose, which was formed in 1912. Fire protection in the area was provided by Hopewell Hose, with assistance coming as far away as the Village of Fishkill and the City of Beacon.
As the area grew so did the fire district with the addition of the Stormville Fire Company in 1949, the Hillside Lake Fire Company in 1952 and the Wiccopee Fire Company in 1954. Additionally, the Stormville Fire Company Sub-Station was built in 1983 to cover the top of Stormville Mountain and the Wiccopee Fire Company Sub-Station was built in 1985 to cover the Shenandoah Valley and decrease response times to I84.
In 1997, the Fire District's Headquarters and Training Facility was opened providing office space for the Commissioners, Chiefs, and staff, a meeting room for district meetings, and a training center that includes a training tower, burn room, roof simulator, mayday trailer, and a classroom. Over the years this area has expanded to include a multi-use building that serves as apparatus storage with an area for social functions and most recently in 2022, a large classroom building with additional storage/training area for large classes and other functions.
Operations have also grown with the times to include; fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials mitigation, fire investigation, rescue, special operations, and scene support services.
